DERIVED FROM
Zinc Ethylenediaminetetraacetate (Zn-EDTA)
Premium chelated form provides superior stability and plant availability compared to zinc sulfate.
APPLICATION RATES & DIRECTIONS
Below are recommended rates for various applications. Zinc is immobile in plants, so deficiency appears on new growth first.
🌱 Soil Application
Crop Type | Application Rate | Notes |
---|---|---|
Vegetable Crops | 4-12 lbs/acre or 2-5 oz/1000 sq ft |
Apply pre-plant or side-dress |
Field Crops | 4-12 lbs/acre or 2-5 oz/1000 sq ft |
Band application most efficient |
Tree & Vine Crops | 4-15 lbs/acre or 0.5-2 oz/inch trunk diameter |
Apply to root zone |
Ornamental Shrubs | 2 tbsp (small) 2 tbsp/inch diameter (large) |
Work into soil |
Turf | 0.5 lb/1000 sq ft or 22 lbs/acre |
Water in thoroughly |
🍃 Foliar Application
Crop Type | Application Rate | Spray Volume |
---|---|---|
Citrus Trees | 1-2 lbs/100 gal | Cover spray (avoid bloom) |
Other Trees & Vines | 1-2 lbs/acre | 25 gal minimum |
Vegetables & Field Crops | 0.33-1.33 lbs/acre | 25 gal minimum |
Turf | 1-4 oz/1000 sq ft | Thorough coverage |
💧 Hydroponics/Fertigation
System | Concentration | Target ppm Zn |
---|---|---|
Hydroponics | 0.5-2 oz/100 gal | 0.05-0.5 ppm |
Fertigation | 2-4 lbs/acre/application | Monitor with testing |

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the signs of zinc deficiency in plants?
Zinc deficiency presents distinct symptoms that appear on new growth first (zinc is immobile in plants):
- Interveinal chlorosis: Yellowing between leaf veins on young leaves
- Small, narrow leaves: Known as "little leaf" in trees
- Shortened internodes: Creates rosette appearance with clustered leaves
- Bronze or brown spots: Necrotic spots on leaves, especially in beans
- Delayed maturity: Slow growth and poor fruit/seed development
- White bud in corn: Young leaves emerge white or pale yellow
Most susceptible crops: Corn, rice, citrus, pecans, beans, and grapes. Deficiency is common in high pH soils (above 7.0), sandy soils, high phosphorus soils, and cool, wet conditions.
How does chelated zinc EDTA compare to zinc sulfate?
Chelated zinc EDTA offers significant advantages over zinc sulfate:
- pH stability: Remains available up to pH 7.0 (zinc sulfate precipitates above pH 5.5)
- 5-10x more efficient: Lower application rates needed for same effect
- No soil tie-up: Protected from phosphate and carbonate reactions
- Compatible mixing: Can be tank-mixed with most fertilizers and pesticides
- Longer residual: Stays available for extended periods
- Less phytotoxic: Gentler on plant tissues in foliar applications
While zinc sulfate is cheaper per pound, the superior efficiency of chelated zinc often makes it more economical per acre treated.
When and how should I apply zinc fertilizer?
Timing considerations:
- Preventive: Apply pre-plant or at planting for susceptible crops
- Corrective: Apply immediately when deficiency symptoms appear
- Annual crops: Single application at planting usually sufficient
- Perennials: Apply in early spring before bud break
Application methods (ranked by effectiveness):
- Banded soil application: Most efficient, place 2-3" beside and below seed
- Foliar spray: Fast correction, apply to young leaves
- Broadcast soil: Less efficient, requires higher rates
- Seed treatment: Preventive for cereals
Best practices:
- Test soil - critical level is 0.5-1.0 ppm DTPA-extractable Zn
- Avoid over-liming which induces deficiency
- Don't overapply - zinc can be toxic at high levels
- Monitor tissue levels: 20-60 ppm is optimal for most crops
